Ethical considerations in contemporary rehabilitation medicine: theoretical background
The keywords of modern rehabilitation medicine (RM) are: a humanistic-comprehensive-multidisciplinary approach, use of the bio-psycho-social model, a long term and costly process, a permanent pursuit for functional improvement and re-integration into society. These issues are of particular relevance to our daily-routine work in rehabilitation of the disabled. Today, medical and economical atmosphere, reveal an inherent conflict between ideal frame of bio-ethical issues and realistic economic reality. Thus, the patients, families and rehab-teams should act along the present tension of the ideal patients’ autonomy, law, and ethical lines and the legislative-economical reality.
